The soft roe (milt) is delicious! As are the hard roe (eggs) too!

Herring soft roe (the milt) isn't just delicious, it's fantastically nutritious too! And I could happily eat it every day. So I was delighted to find a source again after it stopped being sold more generally some years ago.

I've also been delighted to have been able to buy hard roe (the eggs), on request, as well! I really don't know why they're not as sought after as the soft roe, in this country anyway, when they're also absolutely delicious and wonderfully nutritious too! I think it can only be because people just aren't quite as familiar with them, but they're a real treat on toast, just tossed in seasoned flour and fried, with a sprinkle of vinegar. Years ago, I'd have had both hard and soft roe with lots of butter, but it's olive oil these days. Still yum!
